Astrology & Ayurveda

Ayurveda - Art of Being Part 1 The knowledge of Ayurveda was handed from Brahma to Daksha Prajapati, onto the Ashwin twins (the divine doctors), then passed to Indra. Sage Bharadvaja volunteered to go to heaven to receive this wisdom from Indra, and so become the first human to receive the knowledge of Ayurveda. He passed it to Atreya, then onto Punarnavasu and finally Agnivesha.

UK Threat

Ayurveda under threat in the UK - Response from the Hindu Council UK to the Joint Consultation on the report to Ministers from the Department of Health Steering Group on the Statutory Regulations of Acupuncture, Ayurveda and Herbal Medicines practised in the UK.

Ayurveda, (Ayu – age, life, longevity), (r – relating to), (Veda – knowledge, wisdom, science) is the most ancient complete system of health care in the world, inscribed in the spiritual Vedas, the worlds most ancient books of wisdom.
It is prevention oriented, free from harmful side effects and capable of treating disease at its source. Recognized by the World Health Organization (WHO), today it is widely practiced in India and Sri Lanka as a government recognized and statutorily regulated medical system.

Every culture and country had its traditional medical system, a blend of plants/herbs and science with generous measure of spirituality. It tends to be forgotten that the materia medica of modern-western medicine was, until as late as the 1930s, largely plant based and that botany was still part of the undergraduate curriculum in medical colleges until the mid-twentieth century.

Ayurveda`s theoretical foundation is a doctrine of the five elements embedded in the three doshas (Vata, Pita, and Kapha), which analogous to the more recent Greek teaching of Hippocrates and Galen. In turn, Greek medicine strongly influenced the subsequent development of what we call western medicine. The five elements in Chinese medicine were brought to China by Indian Buddhists, many of who were skilled Ayurvedic practitioners.

Several decades down the line, the tables are turning. Disillusionment with western medicine has resulted in a resurgence of enthusiasm and demand for safer, more natural forms of healing.
In his Report, Professor R. Michael Pittilo makes strong recommendations for statuary regulations who recently led the Department of Health Steering Group for the Statutory Regulation of acupuncture, herbal medicine (including Ayurveda) and traditional Chinese medicine (AHMTCM).

Save Herbal Medicine David Tredinnick MP speaking in favour of Statutory Regulation of Alternative Medicines and expressing positive vibes for a change of Government in the same hit!

The Department of Health is now consulting the public on the proposed statutory regulation of AHMTCM practitioners – closing date November 16th! After almost 10 years of commitment to this important step forward, which is in the public interest, there is now a very real possibility that the Government will not proceed with statutory regulation.

The aim should be to ensure, as far as possible, that the public is protected, and to promote public confidence in the competence and good standing of regulated professionals. Hindu Council UK supports Statutory Regulations, which must become an act of Parliament for Acupuncture, Ayurveda and Herbal Medicines practised in the UK.

If you can spare a moment, please take a look, and consider signing yourself and if possible, please forward it to your family and friends and vote for Statutory Regulations. Time is running out.
