The Intersection of Race, Gender, and Ethnicity in Higher Education
On 03/01/2005 three scholars providing leadership in the arena of racial and gender equity in higher education visited the UO to speak about ways to move forward in that pursuit. The panel, entitled "The Intersection of Race, Gender, and Ethnicity in Higher Education" is cosponsored by CSWS and the Office of the Vice Provost for Institutional Equity and Diversity.
Whole Curriculum Dimensions - Overarching themes that have a significance for individuals and society, and provide relevant learning contexts: Identity and cultural diversity (confidence, safe space for personal expression, cross curricular projects) - Healthy lifestyles (personal, emotional and spiritual wellbeing) – Community participation (connections with communities, proactive and responsible citizenship) – Enterprise (from connections with businesses and other organisations – Global dimension and sustainable development (the changing world, today’s reality, current affairs, international connections) – Technology and the media (projects that use multi media and online connections with others) – Creativity and critical thinking (debating skills, challenging perceptions, considering diversity, practical projects)
Achieving our aims? The duty to promote community cohesion will be inspected from Sept. 2008. Evidence of community cohesion should be collated and demonstrated to wrap around school from employment of staff, polices and procedures, mission statements, working practice and curriculum activity. In return it can help secure the Every Child Matters outcomes and schools responsibilities under equalities legislation. It will support the following: Attainment, Behaviour & attendance, Civic participation, Healthy lifestyle choices, Further education, employmt/training and Assessment
